Dhi Qar: The referral of more than 87 service and educational projects within the development of the regions

Dhi Qar / Hussein Al-Amel
The Dhi Qar Governorate administration announced the assignment and signing of contracts for more than 87 service and educational projects within the regional development plan for the year 2023.
It included 14 administrative units belonging to the governorate. The announced projects were distributed as 18 projects in the center of Nasiriyah district, 13 projects in Al-Shatrah district, 8 projects in Qalaat Sukkar district, 6 projects in Al-Dawaya district and the same in Ur district, 6 other projects in Al-Batha, 5 projects in Al-Nasr and the same in Karmat Bani Said, and 10 projects in Sayed Dakhil and Al-Rifai And 4 projects in the district of Chibayish and the same in Al-Fuhud, while a large service project has been allocated to the district of Souq Al-Shuyukh at a cost of 15 billion dinars, which includes integrated infrastructure for 13 streets in the aforementioned district, and a water project has been allocated to the district of Al-Gharraf.
A statement issued by the Media Office of the Governor of Dhi Qar, Muhammad Hadi Al-Ghazi, stated, "The governor announced the assignment and signing of contracts for service projects in a number of districts and districts of the province."
The statement, which Al-Mada received, added that "the projects are part of the projects of the 2023 regional development plan."
He pointed out, "The work sites were handed over to a number of companies, and they were instructed to start implementation," noting that "the projects that were referred are strategic projects aimed primarily at raising the level of services provided to citizens."
And he warned, "The transferred projects included the rehabilitation of schools and the electrical network, the installation of transformers, the preparation of specialized mechanisms, the construction, casting and cladding of streets and sidewalks in separate areas of the governorate."
And the statement stressed, “The projects also included the construction of streets with infrastructure services in a number of residential neighborhoods, and the development and modernization of Nabi God Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street.”
And he stressed, "The project plan included the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, electrification, rehabilitation of residential neighborhoods, the construction of 1,000-spectator stands with administrative suites, and the construction of sewage and rainwater networks."
The statement talked about “including a number of neighborhoods and residential areas with the construction and expansion of water complexes, the establishment of networks of different diameters with conveyor lines, the rehabilitation of rural roads, and the establishment of a similar arena and closed multi-purpose sports halls.”
And the statement went on, that "the plan projects also included the establishment of a joint rain and sewage pumping station, the construction of lines connecting stations and electrification, the improvement and development of solutions to bottlenecks in slum areas and residential neighborhoods, and the rehabilitation of feeders."
In a previous statement, the governor of Dhi Qar indicated that the district of Souq Al-Shuyukh was included in a major infrastructure project at a cost of 15 billion dinars.
He explained, "The project includes the construction of streets and sewage networks for rainwater and sewage, and integrated infrastructure for 13 streets in the district."
He stressed his keenness to "advance the service and urban reality in all administrative units in the province, according to legal entitlement and based on population proportions and financial allocation."
At the end of last year, the Dhi Qar Governorate administration revealed a project plan worth 560 billion dinars within the Emergency Support for Food Security Law, while it referred to service and urban projects that include all administrative units in the governorate within the plan.
Dhi Qar governorate, which has a population of more than two million and 300 thousand people, and includes 22 administrative units, 10 of which are adjacent to the marshlands, faces a growing problem of lack of services, as residential areas and neighborhoods suffer from an acute shortage of basic services, deterioration and obsolescence of infrastructure, not to mention a clinical deficit in government hospitals. It is estimated at more than 4,000 beds, and the deficit in school buildings is estimated at more than 700 buildings, while the residential areas served by sewage networks constitute less than 30 percent of the aforementioned areas.
While the electricity sector suffers from the aging of transmission lines, networks, stations, and secondary transformers that no longer accommodate the growing loads and face the risks of meltdown or explosion of transformers, and there are still dozens of villages that are not served with water and electricity, not to mention the suffering of the local population from water scarcity during the summer and the increase and expansion of neighborhoods (Al-Hawasim) and areas of encroachment on public property.
The recent rain wave in Dhi Qar revealed the need for poor residential neighborhoods to provide more services and rehabilitation of infrastructure in the sewage sector in order to avoid damages resulting from heavy rains, flooding of streets and collapse of homes, as a number of districts and sub-districts recently witnessed sporadic incidents that caused material and human damage.
