The capital, Baghdad, is preparing at the beginning of next May to hold the Third International Water Conference, with the participation of delegations from Turkey, Iran, Syria and other international parties.
The second deputy of the Parliamentary Agriculture, Water and Marshes Committee, Hussein Mardan, said in a statement to the official newspaper, "Baghdad will host on the 6th and 7th of next month the third water conference to mobilize international public opinion towards Iraq's water issues."
And he stated, "The committee, during its meeting last week with the Prime Minister, demanded that there be a permanent international agreement for all countries bordering Iraq, especially since the country did not enter into many international agreements, in addition to its absence from the strategic plans for water."
He explained that "Turkey's move to release water towards Iraq for a period of one month is unacceptable among countries, and it appeared that Iraq (begging) from it for water as if it were the guardian of the country," as he put it.
He pointed out, "Turkey has cut off all the tributaries that flow into Iraq by building 22 dams, the last of which is (Ilisu), which is used to generate electric power and sends that water to the (Jazra) dam, which keeps it and prevents its access to Iraq."
And Mardan indicated, "The conference to be held in Baghdad will host the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Turkish Republic, the Syrian Republic, and international parties concerned in the matter, to talk about the reality of water, and try to sign an agreement to oblige those countries to the fixed share determined for Iraq from the water on their lands," calling on the heads of the blocs The political party must take a decisive stance in this regard, "and come out with a unified position towards any country that is negligent in Iraq's right in this file."
