Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: Readings for the near future suggest that Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani will make a number of changes among the governors, to enhance government performance, and end paralysis and corruption in some provinces.
The parties emerged as having a major role in choosing a governor, and the provinces turned into fiefdoms in the name of this or that party since 2003.
In Iraq, the process of appointing governors in the provinces depends on the political quota system. Political quotas mean that government seats and positions are distributed among the different political parties according to the percentage of votes obtained by those parties in the elections.
The leader in the coordination framework, Turki Al-Atbi, said that the first change will affect two to three governors and will be issued immediately after the 2023 budget is finalized, stressing that the forces of the coordination framework have given the Sudanese options in the file of changes that focus positively on the government's performance and ensure greater effectiveness.
Under the Iraqi political system, the lists of parties that participate in the parliamentary elections and achieve a certain share of votes form the coalitions and political blocs that form the government. These political blocs determine the distribution of government positions and governors in the governorates based on the strength of each party and its parliamentary size.
Expectations indicate that Al-Sudani may approach the framework forces with the names of the governorates covered by the change in a session to be held in the middle of next week.
Ending the role of quotas in distributing positions has become a remarkable popular demand.
Representative Abdul Amir Al-Taiban said that changing the failed governors has become a necessity.
On May 4, the Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the dismissal of about 60 officials with the rank of Director General in various ministries due to their failure to evaluate.
