    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Ministry of Water Resources said that Iraq has overcome the water ordeal that it went through during the current summer, and while it indicated the improvement of Turkey's releases to the Tigris River, it revealed a four-point government program to overcome the country's water scarcity in the future.
Minister Aoun Diab Abdullah said, in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", after the Prime Minister's visit to Turkey on the 21st of last March, water releases to the Tigris River increased from 200 to 500 m3 / s, coinciding with the rains during the season. winter, which contributed to raising the country's water reserves from seven to more than 13 billion m3.
He added that the releases from Turkey continued at a rate of 500 m3/s, but it decreased to 225 m3/s at the beginning of July, noting that the technical delegation agreed with Turkey after that to increase it to 370 m3/s, but this was not achieved and the releases continued at the same rate. The previous low, revealing its rise to 500 m3/s during the first week of the current month and continuing at the same rate so far.
Abdullah added that the current improvement in the water quotas released from Turkey, amounting to 500 m3/s to the Tigris River up to the Mosul Dam, contributed to doubling its reserves, stressing that the difficult ordeal of Iraq has now been overcome in the summer, expressing his hope that the same quantities will continue to be released during the two months. current and next.
He mentioned that the absolute quotas from the Mosul Dam, which currently amount to 500 m3/s, come to enhance the level of the Euphrates River with two axes, the first is from the Mosul Dam to the Tigris River and then to the Euphrates through the irrigation channel at a rate of 140 m3/s, and the second is from the Tharthar pumping station at a rate of 80 m3/ Secondly, the quantity supplied from the Tigris to the Euphrates is 220 m3/s, and currently the Euphrates has reached relative stability in water quantities.
Regarding government plans to overcome the water scarcity crisis, the Minister of Resources explained that his ministry will depend on several points, the first is the direction to use new irrigation projects, and the second includes the adoption of modern irrigation technologies in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Japanese JICA organization, through the formation of water user associations. As for the third, it includes providing water by following modern and inexpensive technologies, and by benefiting from the applied Japanese experience in this regard. As for the fourth, it includes the use of modern technologies and the development and raising of agricultural production vertically and horizontally.
