The Parliamentary Finance Committee suggested approving the salary scale next year, pointing out that the current budget situation cannot afford to add more amounts, but it stated that this is a government decision and that the House of Representatives is not concerned with it.
The head of the committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, said in a televised interview followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "many people ask through social media and ask the Parliamentary Finance Committee to resolve the issue of the salary scale."
Al-Atwani continued, "In previous press interviews, we clarified that the salary scale was set by a government decision, and the House of Representatives did not interfere with it at all."
He pointed out, "The Finance Committee in the House of Representatives is keen to achieve justice among employees and reduce the disparity between institutions, which is large and clear to the observer."
Al-Atwani pointed out, “The government summoned the committee in charge of the bureaucratic matter regarding the issue of the salary scale, and we held an important meeting with its members.”
And he added, "It was agreed with this committee that the lowest salary be 425 thousand dinars, which is the nominal salary without other allocations."
Al-Atwani stressed that “the final decision remains in the hands of the government,” stressing that “Parliament does not have the authority to legislate this law except after it comes from the Council of Ministers.”
He expressed his belief that “the salary scale does not need a law, given that many of the state institutions included in the salary scale came with decisions from the Council of Ministers, and therefore this council can reduce or increase them.”
And Al-Atwani stated, “In an answer that we send to all those who ask questions about the salary scale, we say explicitly that Parliament has no relationship and does not bear responsibility for its delay.”
And he spoke about his point of view, by “being close to talking that the salary scale will be postponed to next year, given that the budget has been launched and burdened with a large financial deficit estimated at 64 trillion dinars.”
Al-Atwani expects that “next year will witness the approval of the salary scale,” stressing that “the government committee discussed and settled on the opinions it presented.”
And he continues, “There is a committee in the Ministry of Planning that studies the repercussions resulting from the increase in salaries determined in the new scale, and its relationship to the possibility of high prices.”
Al-Atwani went on to say that “the negative repercussions resulting from the increase in the salaries of employees, who are one of the segments of society, must be studied, and opinions have settled that the ladder that is currently being worked on carries reasonable amounts and numbers, but its approval needs cash.”
