Ports approach international companies to use smart marine buoys

The General Company for Iraqi Ports announced its intention to use smart marine buoys, with the aim of controlling navigation traffic in ports.
The Director General of the company affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, Farhan Al-Fartusi, said in a press statement: His company’s direction in the recent period is focused on communication, contact and coordination with international bodies and organizations responsible for maritime work files, revealing in this regard that it is in the process of approaching modern buoy companies, including smart American buoys that monitor any... Oil spills, or a marine sinking accident, as it is equipped with cameras that continuously transmit what is happening around it, stressing that his company will begin the process of transitioning to this technology through this.
He pointed out that there is a contract with one of the Turkish companies to equip Iraqi ports with new buoys, as the control department is continuously conducting ongoing campaigns through the two naval vessels specialized in replacing and maintaining the buoys in the Shatt al-Arab Canal, Al-Khabqa, the waiting area, and Khor Abdullah, for the purpose of carrying out its work requirements, if required

For his part, the director of maritime control at the company, Ramzi Ashiya, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah” that Iraqi ports are currently using regular buoys to determine the course of the sea line, through light signals and two types of flashing green and red while they are silent, and within the contexts of the international organization affiliated with the United Nations, with the aim of securing Movement
of arriving and departing ships.
He added that the trend towards using a group of smart buoys identified at the entrances to the sea corridor and its branches will work to control electronic marine control through the BTMS system with information about pollution, water and air temperatures, pressure, current speed, and weather conditions.
