    Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, MP Salah Zaini Al-Tamimi, announced today, Monday (September 11, 2023), the formation of a committee to investigate the recent events that took place in Kirkuk Governorate, while indicating that these events will not be repeated.
    The recent crisis in the city of Kirkuk erupted on August 28, when dozens of people from the Arab and Turkmen components completely blocked the road linking Kirkuk to Erbil, rejecting the decision of the government of Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to hand over a building that the Iraqi army currently uses as its headquarters, to the Democratic Party. Kurdistan.
    Al-Tamimi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "His committee is looking with great interest at the events that recently took place in Kirkuk and the need to contain them in a way that contributes to strengthening the national fabric and preventing any chaos that casts a shadow on all components without exception."
    He added, "The Security and Defense Committee in the House of Representatives decided to form a fact-finding committee in its meeting held yesterday, Sunday, and it is hoped that a delegation from the committee will arrive in Kirkuk tomorrow, Tuesday, but today's meeting will decide the date of the visit in coordination with the local government in order to determine “On the merits of what happened and prepare a report to be submitted to the Presidency of the House of Representatives.”
    Al-Tamimi pointed out, “His committee is serious about reaching objective solutions that prevent the recurrence of recent events because the security and stability of the people is a priority for us,” pointing out that “the committee’s report will be fair and objective.”
    The protest in the city of Kirkuk came as part of the Arab and Turkmen political forces’ rejection of the return of the Democratic Party under its leadership to the governorate, and the protests quickly expanded.
    As a result, Kurdish political forces pushed their supporters into the street to protest as a measure against the demonstrations of Arab and Turkmen forces, which led to friction and stone throwing between the two sides, which quickly developed into gunfire in which 4 Kurdish demonstrators were killed, and about 15 others were injured.
