    The Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United States of America issued, on Wednesday, a joint statement that addressed many regional and international issues, while touching on the file of Iraq and Kuwait.

    According to the statement, which was published on the GCC website, the foreign ministers of the GCC countries and the US Secretary of State held a meetingAnthony BlinkenAnd JassimMuhammad Al-Badawi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, held their joint ministerial meeting in New York City, to “celebrate the strategic importance of the historical relations between the two sides,” and the ministers affirmed in this meeting “their joint commitment to building on the achievements of previous ministerial meetings, and enhancing consultation, coordination and cooperation in all fields.”

    The statement stated: “The ministers welcomed the diplomatic communication of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with Iran to seek to stop the regional escalation, and stressed the importance of the countries of the region’s commitment to international law, including the Charter.”United nationsThe ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to freedom of navigation and maritime security in the region, and to deter any illegal actions at sea or anywhere else that would threaten shipping lanes, international trade, and oil installations in the GCC countries.



    Regarding Iraq and Kuwait, the ministers stressed "the importance of Iraq's commitment to Kuwait's sovereignty and territorial integrity and respect for international agreements and United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution No. 833 regarding the demarcation of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border."

    They called for "the completion of the demarcation of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi maritime borders beyond Mark No. 162. They also called on the government of Iraq to expedite the settlement of the internal legal situation to ensure the continued implementation of the agreement related to regulating maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah between Kuwait and Iraq for the year 2012, which is legally in force."

    The Ministers renewed their support for ““Security Council Resolution No. 2107 (2013) regarding referring the file related to the repatriation of all Kuwaitis, including missing Kuwaitis, and the return of Kuwaiti property, including the national archives, to the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).”

    They expressed their hope that ““Iraq will continue to cooperate to ensure progress in this file, and they called on Iraq and the United Nations to make every effort to reach a solution to all issues related to this matter.”
