The Ministry of Commerce intends to launch the process of updating the electronic ration card on the Rusafa side early next month.
Director General of the Department of Planning and Follow-up in the Ministry, Talib Hassan Nimah, told “Al-Sabah”: The Ministry has adopted a new mechanism in the project to automate the electronic ration card in Baghdad, Rusafa and the remaining governorates, and it is hoped that it will be completed during the next year 2024. He stressed that the procedures for reviews have been simplified and accurate. Data is in the process of updating and creating a solid base for the purpose of targeting eligible segments of people with limited income, and the social care network, which numbers up to six million citizens, in addition to working to overcome the problems that occurred in the six governorates (Baghdad, Karkh side, Muthanna, Kirkuk, and Karbala). He pointed out that approximately 644,994 citizens, including travelers and deceased people, who were registered within the ration system in the six governorates were withheld, noting that the rate of updating data in the Karkh side of Baghdad in its three branches reached 92 percent, out of a total of 3 million people, as the process of updating their data began since Six months, and the update is still ongoing, while the rate of updating family data for the five governorates has reached 90-97 percent, whose numbers range between 4 and 5 million people. Nima expected the number of people withheld to increase after modernization was carried out in Rusafa and the rest of the country’s governorates, in order to eliminate the waste of public money and foodstuffs and to know the quantities stored by the agents, stressing that the ministry intends to develop the food basket items with good quality and from solid international origins and work to add other new materials. He added that the beginning of next December will witness the start of the process of updating the electronic ration card data in Rusafa and the other remaining governorates, as technical, logistical and legal preparations are being prepared so that the dates for starting the updating process will be announced soon. He pointed out that the Prime Minister’s Office is closely following up on the procedures, noting that the latest technologies are being followed through advisory offices to overcome all the problems that occurred in the first batch of the six aforementioned governorates. It is hoped that the upcoming procedures will be more simplified according to the mechanism of self-updating for families through modern electronic programs, in addition to Therefore, it is hoped that several centers will be opened on the Rusafa side equipped with mobile teams that any citizen can visit for the purpose of updating the electronic card.
