Economic circles welcomed the decision of the Council of Ministers to adopt a price of 100,000 dinars per ton of black oil for all brick factories, and the price for the rest of the factories in the public and private sectors will be 150,000 dinars per ton of black oil, in the Council of Ministers session on 1/2/2024, considering the matter to be positive. It represents a good step on the path to activating national production, but they argued that other decisions were necessary to establish national industry.
Economic expert Amer Al-Jawahiri said: Such important steps contribute to facilitating and reducing the costs of operating activities for beneficiaries and give the signal to move to enable public and private sector factories. However, it is important to emphasize the smoothness and speed of preparation without the routine of waiting and not giving way to intermediaries who take away part of the discount privilege and play games. The processing time is limited, which may sometimes prompt beneficiaries to resort to intermediaries, thus losing the privilege.
He told Al-Sabah: There is a need to encourage everyone who uses black oil to move to use natural gas instead to take into account the environmental aspect, while providing incentives for that and at the same time providing the requirements for processing and storage.
He pointed out that the most important aspect, as long as we are in the year of achievements, requires that the Ministerial Council for the Economy, in coordination with the Federation of Iraqi Industries, the Federation of Iraqi Businessmen, and the Association of Pharmaceutical Producers, take into account that the important economic goal is to enable and facilitate the work and support of all operating and stalled industrial projects in order for them to operate, and to greatly stimulate local investments. Alone and for local companies allied with foreign partnerships to establish new projects, pointing to the necessity of determining the packages of procedures required to facilitate the work of the private and mixed industrial sector in particular and the development and profitability of the public sector, for the joint responsibility to ensure success in their projects, which will be directly reflected in the reality of business, the economy and employment, and coordination must also take place. Al-Jawahiri explained, saying: There must be a comprehensive view for the development, development and expansion of the industrial sector in general, without focusing on some difficulties only, including the complete facilitation of credit matters and remittances for their imports, especially those steps concerned with small projects, indicating the importance of having comprehensive guidance with identifying specific employees who are reviewed by representatives of those factories in all areas. Public and private departments and banks to overcome
the obstacles they face.
He proposed organizing round tables for the sub-sectors in the presence of industrialists, company owners and private sector institutions concerned, in the presence of representatives of the aforementioned ministerial councils, to fix the problems and challenges and provide solutions and proposed procedures, provided that the recommendations of each sectoral table are submitted to the Ministerial Council for the Economy and then the Council of Ministers to issue binding decisions, as we recommend. By naming a liaison and hotline member in the Ministerial Council for the Economy, to receive communications from industrialists in times of emergency, in coordination with the Iraqi Federation of Industries.
