    Economy News - Baghdad
The head of the Border Ports Authority, Major General Omar Al-Waeli, stressed on Thursday the necessity of striking the sources of smuggling.
The authority said in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “as part of his ongoing series of field tours to all border crossings, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli made a surprise visit to the Mandali port, with the aim of reviewing the flow of work and control procedures therein in accordance with the law,” noting that “ The inspection process was supervised for a number of completed shipments, auditing of bridge weighbridge arrivals, operation of sonar devices, collection of customs duties, and electronic verification of documents.”
She added, "The visit included holding a meeting in the presence of all working departments to listen to their needs and work obstacles and discuss ways to overcome them and find effective solutions to them."
During his speech, Al-Waeli stressed - according to the statement - “the necessity of striking the sources of smuggling, preserving economic and health security and public money, and achieving high revenues by collecting real duties on goods and intensifying inspection operations in all their forms, to prevent the passage of any narcotic materials or materials prohibited from import,” stressing “ Everyone should make more efforts to improve the reality of work and the services provided and to maintain the upward pace therein.”
