    Economy News - Baghdad
On Thursday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, sponsored the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese company Toyota, to develop the networks and capabilities of the electrical system, in the presence of the Japanese ambassador to Iraq.
A statement from the minister’s office received by Al-Iqtisad News Agency stated, “The memorandum stipulates that the Japanese company will finance and implement a number of special projects in the production, transportation, and distribution sectors, and joint committees will be formed between the two parties to determine the list of projects proposed to be implemented and their priorities.”
Following the conclusion of the memorandum of understanding, the minister expressed his “great appreciation for Japan’s role in supporting Iraq and the contribution of Japanese companies to its reconstruction operations, especially in the energy sector,” renewing his call “for foreign companies to seize the available investment opportunities and implement various projects in the electricity sector.” ‏
Last month, the Council of Ministers authorized the Minister of Electricity to sign a memorandum of principles of cooperation between the Ministry of Electricity and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, in line with the Ministry’s plan and the available financial allocations.
