    The Ministry of Transport has begun activating lagging railway projects in the western region of the country, as part of a plan to activate all their counterparts in the country during the current year, announcing the completion of seven projects that were stalled to connect railways to the governorates.
    Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that his ministry has begun steps to determine the most important stages of the lagging work on projects in the western region, most notably the project to run passenger trains to reach the Al-Qaim and Husaybah regions, as well as the latest work for the two sectors. (Fallujah and Ramadi).
    He announced directing the workers in these projects to redouble efforts to complete the rehabilitation work of the railway lines within the vicinity of the (Baghdad-Al-Qaim-Akashat) railway line to restore life to these affected areas, transport passengers by trains, facilitate the transport of goods and activate commercial movement there, stressing his ministry’s intention to activate all the suspended lines. And lagging during the current year.
    Al-Safi stated that his ministry pays great attention to the railway file, as it constitutes a safe and appropriate means of transportation, through its effective efforts to connect all governorates with railway transport lines, revealing that seven railway lines were completed during the past year.
    He continued that the projects are the Qayyarah refinery railway line in Mosul to transport crude oil after a 20-year interruption, the (Baghdad-Fallujah) line after a five-year interruption, the Silo Al-Sharqat line in Mosul after a 30-year interruption, and the Raseef 27 line connecting to Umm Port. Qasr Al-Shamali, the link between the sea docks, in addition to the opening of the 40 km long double line (Al-Musayyab - Al-Mahmoudiyah), and the Al-Musayyib, Yusufiyah and Latifiya bridges, in addition to the completion of the project of automatic arms and surveillance cameras to regulate the work of trains, and the opening of the Al-Haqlaniya area sector with a length of 80 km after an interruption of eight years. Years, within the railway line (Baghdad - Al-Qaim - Akashat).
