The Director General of the Ministry’s Agricultural Lands Department, Ali Al-Shammari, said, “The area of arable land is calculated through a mathematical process and according to the database in the department, which constitutes about 49% of the total total of agricultural lands spread across all regions of Iraq,” according to the official Al-Sabah newspaper. .

He stated that “this percentage constitutes more than 51 million dunums suitable for agriculture,” noting that “the actual utilization of these lands amounts to 23 million dunums, meaning that a large percentage of the deficit and exit from production is due to climate changes and encroachments on agricultural lands.”

Al-Shammari stressed that “the government headed by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani and the ministry have drawn up plans to find solutions and remedies to exploit the damaged lands and solve all problems and developments that occur in productivity, including the problems of desertification and climate impact, by moving to use modern technologies and increase production vertically and increase yields.”

He pointed out that "the department has an important role in managing agricultural lands in all governorates, through the directorates and divisions spread across the districts and districts, in addition to its authority to manage lands and balance the activities of the directorate through technical auditing, supervision of all allocations, and coordination between all agricultural operations and supplies."
