Construction of 3 dams in Kurdistan

The Ministry of Water Resources will implement three dams within the regions of the region during the current and next years, after completing its studies and designs.
Minister Aoun Dhiyab Abdullah told Al-Sabah that the technical ministerial committee is discussing updating the designs of the dams proposed to be completed in the region: Taqtaq, Dalka, Bakerman and Mandawa, which are designed to generate electricity and absorb
medium-sized amounts of water.
He stated that there are still unresolved deliberations regarding the Mandawa Dam, which the regional government is responsible for construction with the federal government, regarding the size of the lake levels to be built in front of the dam, pointing out that the remaining three dams will begin their work during the current and next years, after the completion of Its studies and designs.
Abdullah stated that the four dams in the region will be built on the Upper and Lower Zab Rivers and their branches. The Bakerman Dam will be built on the Khazir River, which empties into the Upper Zab River in Dohuk Governorate, and the Taqtaq Dam will be built on the Lower Zab River after the Dukan Dam in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, while the Mandawa Dam will be constructed. On the Greater Zab River in Erbil Governorate, while the Dalka Dam will be built in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
