    The Russian Consul General in Erbil, Maxim Rubin, confirmed on Wednesday that there is great interest from President Vladimir Putin and Russian policy in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.[/size]
    [size=45]This came during the Russian National Day ceremony held in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, organized by the Russian Consulate General in Erbil, in the presence of many political figures in the region.[/size]
    [size=45]The Russian consul said, during the ceremony, that “there are common ties between the former Soviet Union (the Russian Federation today) with the Kurds and the Kurdistan Region, and the late Mullah Mustafa Barzani indicated that Russia is his second country after Kurdistan.”[/size]
    [size=45]Rubin added, “There is great interest on the part of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Russian policy, in the Kurdistan Region, and there is a constant trend to support the region with its vital political forces, joint economic action, and expanding commercial as well as cultural frameworks.”[/size]
    [size=45]For his part, the head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Regional Government, Safin Diziyi, said in a speech during the ceremony, “The Kurdistan Region is happy with the presence of the Russian Consulate General, and the regional government congratulates the Russian National Day, and there is a strong relationship with Russia, and they are partners in progress, renaissance and protection.” The region is protected from external threats,” stressing “the commitment to consolidating bilateral relations between the two sides.”[/size]
