Construction: New bridges reduced traffic by 80%

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities approved the resolution of traffic congestion by 60-80 percent at intersections that witnessed the construction of new bridges. The official spokesman for the ministry, Nabil Al-Saffar, told Al-Sabah that the ministry presented an integrated strategy to absorb the phenomenon of traffic congestion, including solving 60 nodes that witness heavy congestion. He explained that the ministry launched 16 projects last year within the first package to resolve congestion, six of which were opened: Faeq Hassan bridges at the intersection of Fine Arts and Cordoba near the Ministry of Interior, two bridges linking Sadr City to Palestine Street, Al-Shaljiya Bridge near Al-Muthanna Airport, and part of the Eagles Square project. He noted that the projects of the second package began their work by starting to implement the parallel Al-Sarafiya Bridge to connect it to the Buratha intersection.
Al-Saffar added that the completed projects have contributed to easing bottlenecks at intersections by 60-80 percent. He continued that the coming few days will witness the opening of the Sana'a and Aden bridges, after the implementation rate exceeded 88 percent, as the project witnessed the emergence of some conflicts, but they were resolved by transferring the water and sewage paths to complete the bridges according to the timetables. Al-Saffar stated that the ring road is one of the most prominent projects that are considered complementary to the projects to relieve traffic congestion in Baghdad after it was included in the government program for the current year. He pointed out that the ministry is currently awaiting the approval of the consulting company on the final designs in preparation for the referral and implementation of the ring road project in four stages, especially after the agreement to fix the lanes and determine the signs to ensure that there is no overtaking. He added that the ring road, which is expected to be implemented before the end of the current year, will start from the entrance to Baghdad-Kirkuk, then Taji, then to Al-Muthanna Bridge, after which it will connect to Expressway No. 2, then it will circle around the east of the airport to Al-Dura and Al-Yusufiyah, then to Al-Madain, then to the east of the Diyala River and return to meet the Kirkuk road at the expressway of the Al-Shaab area and connect all the intersections of the entrances to Baghdad-Kirkuk, Baghdad-Mosul, Baghdad-Hillah, and Baghdad-Kut.
