Shafaq News/ BlackRock Investment Company said that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old gunman who opened fire on a rally on Saturday in an attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump, appeared in a previous advertisement for the investment company BlackRock.
The ad, produced in 2022, was filmed at Bethel Park High School, where Crooks was a student at the time.
BlackRock filmed the scene, part of a series targeting teachers who manage their retirement assets, in a classroom led by a real teacher and with real students.
Crooks was one of those students, BlackRock told CBS.
“In 2022, we ran an ad featuring a teacher from Bethel Park High School, where several students in unpaid media briefly appeared in the background, including Thomas Matthew Crooks,” the company said in a statement.
The company added: "We will make all videos available to the relevant authorities, and we have removed the video from circulation out of respect for the victims."
BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, also condemned the violence that took place at Trump's rally over the weekend.
“The attempted assassination of former President Trump is abhorrent,” BlackRock said in a statement. “We are grateful that former President Trump was not seriously injured and our thoughts are with all the innocent victims of this heinous act, especially the person who was killed.” The company added that it “condemns political violence of any kind.”
Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service agents, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown. The FBI is investigating the shooting as an attempted assassination.
