    Baghdad Today - Diyala
Informed sources revealed, today, Friday (August 2, 2024), some of the secrets of one of the most complicated moments to resolve the issue of forming the Diyala local government after a delay that lasted 6 months.
The sources told Baghdad Today that “despite the presence of a political consensus of up to 80%, which prompted the attendance of 10 members of the Diyala Council in a modest hall in the Rashid Hotel in Baghdad to hold a session preceded by a meeting with the head of a political bloc and elites in the capital, the hopes of proceeding with the settlement were not decisive and there were indeed mixed responses regarding the division of positions and the names of some candidates, which created differences at first.”
She added, "Three contacts from important political elites directly involved in the Diyala file settled the matter at the last minute, to put strong pressure on four blocs to lower the ceiling of their demands and proceed with a roadmap that is most appropriate to the political reality."
She pointed out that "Badr agreed to the roadmap in Diyala, even though it became a win-lose principle. She is one of the biggest losers because she did not obtain any position, and it seems that the agreement on the governor's identity is what solved the problem."
The sources ruled out that the outcomes of the Rashid Hotel meeting regarding the formation of the Diyala government would lead to tensions in the province, especially since it was directly supported by the leaders of the Coordination Framework, in reference to Al-Amiri and Al-Maliki.
It is noteworthy that the Diyala Council voted late yesterday evening to elect Adnan Jaer Al-Shammari as governor, Mustafa Talib as first deputy governor, and Hassan Mohammed as second deputy governor, while it voted for Omar Al-Karwi as head of the Diyala Council and Salem Al-Tamimi as his deputy.
