"After citizens' complaints" Samarra commits to a decisive date to complete the sewage project

The Samarra Mayor in Salah al-Din Governorate confirmed that the completion rate of the sewage project has reached 95%, while setting a date for the full completion of the project.
Samarra Mayor Arshad Abdul Salam said in an interview with the official media: “There are a number of projects that have entered into force in the city of Samarra, including two major projects related to drinking water, in addition to a contract to equip mechanisms under the law (Samarra, the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization), and historical gates for the entrances to the city of Samarra.”
He added that “the city has witnessed the implementation of 9 school construction projects, as 3 schools will be delivered, while the completion rate of 6 other schools has reached between 90% and 95%.”
Regarding the Samarra sewage project, the city’s mayor explained that “the project is not suffering from a setback, but rather is continuing despite the slow completion rate that has reached 95%,” stressing that “the company implementing the project is working to complete it, thanks to the continuous follow-up by the relevant authorities, as the project is expected to be completed in the first or second month of next year.”
He pointed out that “there is a problem related to the pumping station located in the Al-Salam neighborhood area, as notes were received from the Antiquities Authority that this area is encroached upon, which led to the suspension of work on the station.”
“So far, no alternative site has been found, which is hindering progress in the sewerage project and the development of the city,” he continued, noting that “the completion of the sewerage project is an essential step towards implementing paving, sidewalks and lighting projects, which will then be handed over to the relevant authorities such as the municipality and sewerage.”
He pointed out that “there are ongoing studies that have been transferred from the Prime Ministry to the Ministry of Municipalities to implement new projects, and work is underway on the necessary amendments in accordance with the law (Samarra, the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization), to then go to refer those projects for investment.”
Earlier, a number of citizens in Samarra complained about the delay in implementing infrastructure projects in the governorate, which greatly affected their daily lives and caused a deterioration in basic services.
Citizens expressed their concern about the incomplete completion of vital projects, such as roads, schools and hospitals, stressing that this delay led to difficulties in transportation, increased congestion and a decline in the level of public services.
Citizens called on the concerned authorities to intensify efforts to complete the stalled projects and provide the necessary support to ensure timely implementation. They stressed that improving the infrastructure is not only important for their comfort, but also to enhance the economic and social development in the governorate.
Under these conditions, residents hope that the competent authorities will take urgent measures to deal with this problem, meet the needs of citizens, and work to improve the standard of living in the city.
