United Nations calls for the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border planting to reduce dust storms

    Alsumaria news/Basrah
    Invited
the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United
Nations in Iraq, Martin Kobler, Thursday, to create a green belt along
the land border between Iraq and Kuwait to reduce dust storms, while the
provincial government has proposed project financing of compensation.

    Kobler
said during a joint news conference in Basra with its Governor behind
Abdul Samad, sumaria news "reporter," the United Nations emphasize the
importance of this project as it will reduce the dust storms that have
proliferated in recent years, "adding that" Iraq has witnessed over the
years (2006-2007) a little dust storms, blowing seasonally, but are
occurring at a rate four times, must therefore be concerted efforts to
    develop solutions rapidly. "

    Drew Kobler, "the United Nations
works closely with the Governments of Iran, the United Arab Emirates,
Turkey and Iraq in order to reduce dust storms that result in major
economic loss, as they sometimes lead to the closure of roads and
    airports, and causing disease.

From the Governor of Basra, said
Khalaf Abdul Samad during the Conference that the "greening the border
between Iraq and Kuwait is necessities, the project can contribute to
improving the environment in Iraq and neighboring countries," the former
regime destroyed the environment in southern Iraq when cutting Palm
trees and dry areas of the marshes ".

    The Governor pointed out
that "the establishment of the green belt boundary could be implemented
with financing from the remaining Kuwaiti reparations Iraq owes in light
of an agreement between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti Governments".

    He
said United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in his quarterly
report to the Security Council, Al-sumaria news got a copy today (18
March 2013) that "Iraq is not affected by dust storms, but became one of
the major source countries in view of the deterioration of the
environment for decades," adding that "it is estimated that Iraq would
be subjected to some 300 dust storm a year over the next 10 years."

    Iraq
reportedly has encountered in the last few years a lot of dust storms
blowing from the South and South West of the Arabian Peninsula, and when
blowing causing suffocation of many citizens, particularly those who
suffer from respiratory health problems, leading to some provinces to
establish green belts around to reduce the impacts of dust storms, and
the spatial doubly because half of the conservative desert environment.

I think there will be a great need for a water source to maintain the plants. Is the UN going to put everything on hold for rain next?
