    Baghdad (AIN) –The US Vice-President, Joseph Biden phoned the Premier, Nouri al-Maliki on Friday where they discussed the political updates in Iraq.

    A statement by the White House received by AIN cited “Vice President Biden spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki today. Discussion focused on Syria, and both leaders agreed on the importance of a negotiated end to the conflict.

    The Vice President expressed concern about the security situation in Iraq and pledged continued U.S. support for Iraq in its fight against terrorism.

    The Vice President also spoke about the importance of outreach to leaders across the political spectrum. Both leaders expressed their ongoing commitment to deepening the U.S.-Iraq strategic partnership, as outlined in the Strategic Framework Agreement.”

    It is noteworthy that Biden has also called the Parliament Speaker, Osama al-Nijaifi, and the President, Masoud Barzani, for the same issues.

    Twilight News / The United States expressed concern about the escalation of violence in Iraq, stressing its support for the government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in his battle against what it called terrorism.
