French President Emmanuel Macaron called for the lifting of the embargo on Yemen in a telephone call last Sunday with Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, a source at the Elysee Palace said on Wednesday.

"The president expressed his deep concern over the humanitarian disaster in Yemen and called on the Saudi monarch to lift the blockade completely to allow humanitarian and commercial goods into Yemen," the source told Reuters.

Last Saturday, an official source in the Saudi-led Arab alliance in Yemen revealed the arrival of a ship carrying oil materials to the Yemeni port of Hodeidah.

The Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed al-Jaber, announced Friday that the coalition decided to continue opening the port of Hodeidah for 30 days to receive the commercial, oil and food needs of Yemen. He also decided to install four cranes in the port to facilitate the delivery of food and relief shipments.

The US State Department has asked the coalition to allow the delivery of shipments of the World Food Program to Yemen, and the installation of new cranes in the port of Hodeidah.

A United Kingdom official told CNN on Friday that US President Donald Trump was increasingly concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has been worsening for years because of fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-led international coalition.

According to the official, Trump called for more pressure on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to prevent the suffering of Yemeni civilians.

Last week, Prime Minister Theresa May stressed the importance of halting hunger, alleviating the suffering of innocent people, reopening humanitarian aid and activating the trade process there.

The alliance closed all of Yemen's air, sea and land ports temporarily in early November, in response to the Houthis targeting King Khalid airport in Riyadh with a ballistic missile, which Saudi Arabia and the United States said originated from Iran.

Oxfam International said famine was approaching Yemen's population faster than ever before, adding that the blockade of ports has caused Yemen's imports to decline to about a third of its needs, with more than 8 million people threatened by famine.

Oxfam, an international association of 15 independent organizations working to combat poverty and social disparities across the world, said food prices had risen 28 percent since the beginning of last month.

One million children are at risk of developing diphtheria, and cholera deaths have reached more than 2,000 since April.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that Yemen's children face a triple threat of disease, malnutrition and violence.

Yemen has been suffering for nearly a thousand days in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, the WHO warned.
