[ltr]The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator has said that some 8 million people in Yemen are "on the verge of famine," calling on the Arab alliance led by Saudi Arabia to lift the embargo on Yemen in full.[/ltr]
[ltr]UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lokoc said on Friday that the Saudi-led military alliance must lift its blockade of Yemen in full, with 7 or 8 million people "on the verge of famine."[/ltr]
[ltr]"This embargo has been lifted in part and must be lifted in full to avoid a terrible human tragedy involving the death of millions, which the world has not seen for many decades," Lockock said.[/ltr]
[ltr]UNICEF's regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, Gert Kabiliari, had earlier confirmed that millions of Yemeni children needed humanitarian assistance and that supplies were insufficient.[/ltr]
[ltr]It should be noted that the international coalition led by Saudi Arabia allowed last week to deliver humanitarian aid through the port of Hodeidah and Sanaa airport, after the closure of all ports against the backdrop of the siege after the Houthis fired a ballistic missile towards Riyadh.[/ltr]
