The United States recently offered Tehran direct talks, as happened in the late days of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and ended with a nuclear deal, the newspaper Al-Jarida reported on Wednesday.
"The Americans suggested that Muscat or Geneva should be a venue for these discussions," the paper quoted a source at the Supreme National Security Council as saying. "At first, the US offer was only about talks on dual American prisoners, But the Americans later developed the offer and proposed, through mediators, to discuss all the differences, provided that the talks remain secret. "
The source added that "Tehran responded to the proposals that confidence in the American side is missing, especially after the position of President Donald Trump of the nuclear agreement, and abided by the commitments of his country in the agreement, and therefore any direct contact or meeting between the parties depends on the United States to implement the nuclear agreement in full, Pointing out that "Iran requested that Trump finish the toy carrot and stick on the subject of the nuclear agreement, and packs his order, if he wants to ride the horse or get off his back.
The source said that "all political spectrum in the Supreme National Security Council was opposed to any direct contact with the US government in the current circumstances, even if the United States implemented the nuclear agreement to push some of the Iranian political trends towards the continuation of contacts between the two sides until resolving all differences."
According to the newspaper's source, "the trend in favor of maintaining contact with Washington today has fallen to a minimum, and considers that Iran must stand up and wait for a change in the United States." Ending / 25
