    The General Company for Ports, based in the province of Basra on Friday, the arrival of a new ship for drilling was manufactured in the Netherlands to be used to deepen the shipping channels and the façades of Iraqi commercial ports. 

    The director of the media and public relations in the company, Anmar Abdel-Moneim net in an interview with the "Baghdad Post" that the Iraqi ports received a new ship for offshore drilling called (Ishtar), which is a concave cutter, with a capacity of 4500 cubic meters per day and equipped with a drilling arm up to length To 18 meters, indicating that the new ship was manufactured by the Dutch company (Damen) and will be used to improve the depths of navigation channels and dock platforms to facilitate the arrival and departure of large commercial vessels.

     
    Al-Safi pointed out that the drilling vessel purchased a Philippine company contracted with the Iraqi ports in the form of joint operation, adding that the ownership of a ship will return to the Iraqi ports after the end of the contract with the Philippine company.

    It is noteworthy that Iraq possessed during the seventies the largest fleet of marine drilling in the Middle East consists of 28 excavator, but most of the Iraqi ships drilling were destroyed and sunk and lost during the wars, bendy including 7 old excavators after 2003, then the General Company for Ports acquired in 2009 dredger In the beginning of 2013, the company acquired two new drillings, which were manufactured in the Netherlands, financed by the Japanese loan for Iraq, namely the two wells ( Karbala and Dohuk)). The company also seeks to acquire more specialist marine segments after having to lease some of its types from private sector companies.
