National Security Adviser John Bolton will hold a meeting with US Defense Department officials and other senior officials on the administration's strategy on Iran, four days after US President Donald Trump warned Iran's President Hassan Rowhani.

The meeting, which follows the US president's decision to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear deal and the re-imposition of harsh economic sanctions on Tehran, coincides with an unclear vision of the core cadres of US administration policy toward Iran, including the US For a new deal with Iran, and whether Washington is ready to use military force alongside economic pressure to limit Iran's influence in the Middle East.

The meeting is attended by the members of the main committee of the US administration, a ministerial-level committee on US national security issues, chaired by Bolton, and members: US Secretary of Defense James Matisse, US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Danford, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Others.

The White House did not announce the meeting, but administration officials said it was the third time Bolton had met this team since taking office in April.

It is not clear which military options will be put forward by Pentagon officials. In the past, the US Department of Defense has limited military options, including stopping the arrival of Iranian weapons to the Houthis in their battle with the Yemeni government.

The Wall Street Journal said the Pentagon was not keen to engage in a war against Iran, while its strategy focused on developing its capabilities to deter Russia and China. The outcome of the talks with South Korea remains unclear.

Last Monday, the US president issued a stern warning to his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rowhani, in a tweet on Twitter: "To Iranian President Ruhani: I threaten you and threaten the United States again, or you will face repercussions that few have experienced in history."
