     WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump's administration has stepped up sanctions on Russian aluminum giant Rosal and other Russian companies linked to industry polemics Olga Deribaska, defying a Democratic-led effort in Congress to keep sanctions.
    Earlier this month, Republican members joined the Democrats in a failed attempt to keep sanctions on Rosal, its parent company En Plus and the electricity company JSC Euro-Sep-Energu.
    Supporters of the sanctions maintain that Deripaska, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, controls companies more than the lifting of sanctions imposed in April to punish Russia for annexing Crimea, trying to intervene in US elections and backing the Syrian government in the war.
    But the US Treasury Department said in a statement on Sunday that the three companies had cut direct and indirect shares of Deripaska and that he no longer controls them.
    "This move ensures that most of the directors of the IN PLUS and RUSAL Group are independent, including Americans and Europeans with no commercial, professional or family ties in Direpaska and anyone else subject to Treasury sanctions.

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The US Treasury Department announced on Monday the lifting of sanctions imposed in April on Russia's Rosal Group and its IN Plus company, controlled by Russian billionaire Oleg Deribaska, close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
    The ministry said in a statement that the two companies had reduced the grip of Deripaska to them, and both agreed to the existence of independent figures from the United States and the European Union on its board. However, this decision may cause anger in the United States, especially among the Democrats.
    "The two companies also agreed to unprecedented transparency by allowing the Treasury Department to conduct a careful review of their operations," the US Department of State said, but stressed that the sanctions against Deripaska were still in place. Ending / 25
