    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

The Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim al-Khafaji, considered importing Iranian agricultural products a “priority” for Iraq, expressing his welcome to Iranian investments in various fields in Iraq, including agriculture.

During his meeting with the Iranian Minister of Agricultural Jihad and the Governor of Khorasan Razavi in the city of Mashhad, Al-Khafaji described the trade exchange with the Islamic Republic of Iran as “important,” and considered importing Iranian agricultural products a “priority” for Iraq over importing from other countries.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is the only country that has stood by the Iraqi people in all fields, and Iraq is grateful to the Iranian government and people," he said, according to the Iranian IRNA news agency.

The Iraqi Minister of Agriculture indicated the possibility of strengthening cooperation in various fields between the two countries, and considered the agricultural sector one of the sectors in which Iran has made “excellent progress,” expressing his welcome to Iranian investments in various fields in Iraq, including agriculture.

Al-Khafaji expressed his hope to sign at the end of the visit an agreement that serves the interests of the two countries, stressing Iraq's keenness on more cooperation in various fields with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim al-Khafaji, described the current year as the “worst” in terms of rainfall, and while he indicated that the problem would be limited to Diyala governorate due to the abundance of water reserves, he explained that there are several mechanisms to address water scarcity.

Al-Khafaji said in a statement on the sidelines of his visit to Erbil, "This year is not rainy and is considered the worst year, but the Minister of Water Resources has provided us with a reserve for the integrated summer plan, and we have a problem with the Hamrin Dam only and it will be addressed."

A report by the United Nations' International Organization for Migration last year found that water levels in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers are decreasing at an "unprecedented rate", potentially leading to the forced displacement of entire communities.

The increased salinity of the Shatt al-Arab water in Iraq threatens the productivity of Basra farms, as its water has become more saline, with a decrease in the flow of fresh water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Iraqi farmers said that their crops were severely affected by the increase in water salinity in the Shatt al-Arab city of Basra, in the south of the country.
