The General Company for the Automotive and Equipment Industry in Alexandria, affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, recommended, on Wednesday, banning the import of certain types of cars, while pointing out that the production lines of three types of trucks and cars should be modernized.
The director of the company, Hafez Abboud, told the official news agency: "The Ministry of Finance did not support the company financially, and there are no legislative laws in this regard, as the company operates with the mentality of the private sector."
He added that "all countries of the world support the product through the tax or customs value that is imposed on cars," noting that "the customary custom in Iraq was 25% and it was reduced to 15%, as this procedure caused the state treasury to deprive 10% of the sales value." In addition to obstructing the auto industry locally."
Abboud explained that "reducing the tax to 15% hampered the company's work because of the costs, because the car comes disassembled in addition to the salaries of 600,000 Iraqi workers, and these costs are calculated on the company," noting that "the car customs in 2022 became less than 10%, and this means the destruction of the industry." local".
He continued, "The local industry is behind the global industry by 30 to 35 years, and if we do not have support from foreign companies, we cannot keep pace with the global industry," explaining, "There was an idea to cooperate with the American Ford Company and with the Mitsubishi company to manufacture the product inside the country as well as In Malaysia and other countries, but we don't have product protection locally."
He pointed out that "there are measures to protect the product that must be taken in order to be able to manufacture cars completely inside the country, including preventing the import of Misioboshi or increasing customs on them," explaining that "the company has a Renault factory in Iraqi hands, and we worked online with the French, but the situation now is that there are 400 trucks that he did not buy."
