    A senior official in the National Iranian Oil Company said that the drilling of the first exploration well in the Changolle oil field in the western Iranian province of Ilam will start soon.
    Mahdi Fakour, director of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company, said the drilling project is currently at 40 percent and is progressing ahead of schedule, Shana reported on Saturday.
    “We are now 11 percent ahead of schedule on this project and this confirms that we can complete the project sooner than expected,” Fakur said.
    According to Fakour, the project, worth about 233 billion riyals (more than $832,000) has been awarded to a local company, and is expected to be completed by the eighth Iranian calendar month of Aban (starting on October 23).
    He stated that since Chang Allah field is located on the border with Iraq and was a combat zone during the war with the country, it was necessary first to clean the area from the remaining munitions from that period.
    After cleaning, the project was carried out in three phases; Fakur indicated that the first stage was the construction of an access road to the well, the second stage was the construction of the well area and its vaults, and the third stage was the placement of the rig.
    "All necessary preparations have been made and we are ready to dig the well," he said. According to the Tehran Times website.
    It is located near the Azar oil field in the Anaran region, and it is shared with the Iraqi Badra oil field. The field was considered to be essentially independent, but the analysis of 3D seismic data proved its commonality.
    Based on National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) data, it is estimated that Changuleh needs $2.2 billion in investment to be fully developed.
    To date, 3D seismic tests, well positioning, and infrastructure activities such as cleaning and construction of access roads have been carried out in this area.
    According to studies, there is a need to drill 19 wells in this area. The field is developed in two stages. The first phase, which includes early production, will lead to the production of 15,000 barrels per day, while the second phase will raise production to 50,000 barrels per day.
