Cleverly said in a press interview: ““Israel has the right to defend itself, but we urge it to exercise restraint and professionalism, and the Israeli authorities have pledged to us to respect international law.”
He called on Hamas to "release the hostages and dismantle its military structure near hospitals and civilian gatherings. We know that Hamas is "stealing from the Palestinian people in Gaza."
He pointed out that "calling for a ceasefire now is not what the Palestinian people need. Rather, realism requires that we put pressure to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza," adding: "We know that Hamas is placing their military infrastructure below the hospitals."
He continued: "I have not seen any indication that Hamas and other armed factions want peace with Israel," noting that "we are working with the Israeli authorities to ensure that our aid reaches the Palestinian people and not Hamas."
He concluded by saying: "We are closely monitoring Iran's actions, and have warned it against any reckless action that would endanger the security of the region."
