    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (November 16, 2023), Member of Parliament Ali Saadoun identified 5 positives for establishing joint economic cities between Iraq and Iran.
Saadoun told "Baghdad Today", "Establishing joint industrial cities with neighboring countries, including Iran, is an action plan that was proposed years ago and it does not exclude any country, especially since its economic feasibility is very beneficial to Baghdad as it focuses on 5 direct positives."
He added, "The most prominent positives are attracting capital, providing various job opportunities for the unemployed, reducing foreign imports, and supporting markets with new goods and materials at lower prices. In addition, it supports community security as it provides many job opportunities, especially for young people in poor areas."
Saadoun pointed out that "economic cities were clearly presented in the Sudanese government program, and we hope to accelerate them, especially since there are efforts to build cities with Jordan, Syria, and Turkey, in addition to Iran."
He continued, "The matter needs to accelerate the pace of work and determine the locations," pointing out that "the establishment of cities is subject to Iraq's sovereignty, and American sanctions will not be effective if there is a desire on the part of Baghdad and Tehran to proceed with the construction of cities according to what meets their interests."
Yesterday, Wednesday (November 15, 2023), the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce announced the arrival of an Iranian delegation headed by the Iranian Deputy Minister of Economic and Financial Affairs to Baghdad to hold discussions in the committee concerned with implementing and establishing joint economic cities.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative Affairs, Sattar Al-Jabri, confirmed in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “the delegation, within the framework of the visit prepared by the Ministry, carried out a visit to the sites of the border cities in Jasan and Zurbatiyah, where a joint industrial city and another free city are scheduled to be established, within the framework of the joint economic cooperation agreement.” To develop intra-trade between the two countries in a way that achieves common interests.
Al-Jabri pointed out that "the discussions with the Iranian delegation will include holding joint workshops, which will include a presentation by the Director General of the General Authority for Free Zones and another by the head of the Iranian Industrial Cities Authority, in addition to dialogue sessions between the participants."
He continued, "The Iranian delegation will also hold meetings with Iraqi authorities in the relevant ministries and bodies."
