Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, revealed the details of preparing a project to launch the fourth license for the telephone network, noting that a government company will implement the fifth generation project in order to save money for citizens.
Al-Yasiri said in a televised interview followed by Al-Iqtisad News, “The fourth license for mobile network phones will be granted to a government company and it will operate according to the fifth generation system.”
She added, "The government will invest the funds of the Retirement and Social Security Fund in operating Al-Salam National Telecommunications Company to ensure that the profits go to retired employees and workers."
She pointed out that "the company will open the doors for subscription through the stock exchange and will allow all citizens to subscribe to the company among the traded shares in order to finance the project without difficulty and to offer public benefit."
She continued, "The advantages of the fourth national telecommunications license will be great, including cheap prices, provision of high-speed Internet, and support for the completion of electronic government."
Al-Yasiri confirmed that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani is personally interested in following up on all the details of the company, as five large international companies specializing in communications were approached in order to work with the National Telecommunications Company in operating the fifth generation.”
