Parliamentary Oil: The biggest electricity problems are abuses and project delays

The Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Committee indicated that the problem of power outages during the coming summer will be present, but to a lesser extent than in previous years, and summarized the problems that the electricity sector suffers from as being represented by exceeding the electricity supply, lagging projects, and not releasing allocations by the Ministry of Finance.
Committee member, Sabah Sobhi, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that the steps taken by the government in the electricity sector are good and led to an increase in electricity capacity, adding that the country still needs stronger steps because the electricity infrastructure is not sufficient to meet the need of half the country for 24 hours. An hour a day, so the interruption will continue, “but it will be less.”
Sobhi added that one of the most prominent problems of the electricity sector is the violations on the main lines by some parties and citizens, as well as the delayed projects that require payments. Without a doubt, this problem requires amending and approving the schedules allocated for electricity projects. Here we are facing a technical problem represented by delaying and a legal, legislative and executive problem in the Ministry. Finance represents the release of funds.
He continued: We also do not forget the Iranian gas debts, which amount to ten billion dollars accumulated so far. This is on the one hand, and on the other hand, in the government program approved by Parliament, the year 2025 must be the year of self-sufficiency in gas, especially after what the French company Tutel and other companies worked on. Gas production in the Okaz and Mansouriya fields, indicating that once work is completed in all these fields, especially in the fifth licensing rounds, the problem of gas and the waste that exists in burning gas will end, and Iraq will be satisfied.
