    {Local: Al-Furat News} Minister of Communications, Hiyam Al-Yasiri, announced today, Monday, the blocking of nearly half a billion visits to pornographic websites in Iraq.

    Al-Yasiri said, in a press conference, followed by {Al-Furat News} that: “A decision has been issued by the Federal Supreme Court that is absolutely binding on the ministry and other parties to block pornographic websites, obscene content, insults to the divine, sorcery, and other matters that are offensive to the social fabric,” confirming “her intention to submit a request to the Council of Ministers.” To present the ministry’s available capabilities and request the necessary financial and legislative support from the Council of Ministers and Representatives, which falls outside the ministry’s powers and financial capabilities.”
    She explained, "We have blocked pornographic sites through the international access portals of the Ministry and under continuous supervision by us, but the available technical mechanisms are limited and we need a careful examination device to increase the sobriety of the blocking and the number of pornographic sites that can be blocked." 
    Al-Yasiri touched on “statistics from international sources confirming that there were more than half a billion visits to these sites in Iraq during the month of January 2023, and the number of visits decreased due to the ministry’s blocking measures to 89 million visits during the month of February of 2024.”
    She presented to the media a statistical chart showing the decline in the number of visits to the 10 most viewed porn sites and the 35 most viewed sites in Iraq, where there was a significant decline in the number of visits and views, indicating that “when we took over the ministry, Iraq was on the list of countries with the highest viewing, but now it has been removed.” From the list,” stressing that “there are many measures that we are taking in cooperation with the Media and Communications Authority to implement the decision of the Federal Supreme Court and the need to support the House of Representatives and the Council of Ministers in that.”
