Firefighters fired fire on the first floor of a residential tower in the Jitker district west of the capital early Thursday, leaving a number of wounded, a spokesman for the fire and safety services in Tehran Municipality Jalal Malki said.
In a statement to the official IRNA news agency, Maliki said that at about 2:00 am local time (9:30 pm Wednesday) a fire broke out in a 20-storey residential tower called Bamjal in the Jitkar district west of Tehran, Where several fire engines were sent to the scene.
He added that the fire had engulfed a section of the first floor where firefighters managed to control and extinguish the fire after an hour-long effort and prevented fire from being extended to sections and other floors.
He explained that the details of the incident and the reasons for its occurrence will be announced at the end of the operations and after studying it by specialists in the fire organization.
For his part, director of public relations in the emergency center in Tehran Hassan Abbasi told the «Irna» that the emergency center was informed of a large fire in the tower 'Bamjal' located in front of Lake Jitker in [Gharb] Tehran, was immediately sent 3 ambulances And car driving operations.
Abbasi added that emergency center cadres are currently providing medical services to the wounded, whose numbers will be announced after the operations.
The blaze in Tehran coincided with a similar fire in a residential tower west of London in the early hours of Wednesday, bringing to 12 the number of mourners and 50 others wounded.
The 24-storey building was heavily charged with fire and heavy fire covered its sides as 200 firefighters battled the fire, helping 40 vehicles for hours.
