Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: Iraqi President Fouad Ma'soum stressed that the Kurdish referendum "does not mean, necessarily, the formation of the state the next day".

He proposed that Iraq would be two regions, one is Kurdish and the "rest" will remain in the other region, and the state will remain intact in the name of Iraq.

President Ma'soum, Kurdish, made an interview with Saudi Ukadh daily where he talked about the unity of Iraq, pointing that he took an oath that he will preserve the unity and independence of Iraq.

He added that the formation of the new state has its basics and regional conditions, so without the recognition of the big powers the state cannot be formed.

President Ma'soum called that Iraq should be a "federal state", but with reviewing the structure of the Iraqi state.

"I have an idea that Iraq would be two regions, the first is Kurdish and the rest in the other region. The smaller region shall be Kurdistan and the bigger is the Iraqi region or whatever is called, but the state will be intact in the name of Iraq", he elaborated.

The Kurdish region decided that 25 of September, 2017 will be the date for the independence referendum.
