Australia foils "terrorist" plot to blow up passenger plane

Australian police confirmed Friday they had found an explosive device on a plane belonging to the United Arab Emirates company, which was flying from Sydney airport to the UAE, adding that Australia put the bomb on the plane under the guidance of a sympathetic organization.
A Australian man put an explosive device in the form of a meat-shredding machine in his brother's luggage under the guidance of a senior commander in a sympathetic organization, Federal Deputy Chief of Police Michael Phelan said, adding that the scheme was the most dangerous discovered by Australia.
He pointed out that "the explosives used in the package was sent to Australia by air in a shipment coming from Turkey, within the framework of a plan directed by a sympathetic organization, adding that the plan targeted a plane to Etihad on July 15, but the explosive device did not pass security procedures at the airport."
"This is one of the most dangerous schemes planned to be carried out on Australia's territory," Vilan said.
According to police, one of the men, who were charged by the authorities late last night, knew the organization is calling through his brother, a senior member of the organization in Syria, explaining that the contacts between the accused and the organization began in April, where the two made an explosive device under the guidance of Leading personality organization.
Police said the brother of one of the arrested men did not know that he was carrying a machine-gun bomb in his luggage and that he tried to check it at the airport, adding that the person who carried the explosive device had no idea he was carrying an explosive device.
Etihad Airways said in a statement on Friday it was working closely with the Australian Federal Police.
Australian security officials said they had so far thwarted 13 major terrorist plots in the country.
