    09:03 - 10/08/2017

The Japanese defense ministry on Thursday threatened to intercept any North Korean missile heading for the US island of Guam.

"Japan will allow it to strike any missile directed at US territory in the Pacific Ocean if it deems it a threat to its existence," Kyodo news agency quoted Japanese Defense Minister Itzunori Onudera as saying before a House committee.

"We strongly urge North Korea to take strong warnings and serious rebukes, adhere to a series of UN resolutions and refrain from any further provocative actions," Unudeira said.

"North Korea's provocative actions, including this time, are clearly a provocation to the region, including Japan, as well as to the security of the international community," Japanese government spokesman Yoshihid Suga told reporters. "We can no longer tolerate this."

The official media in North Korea announced Thursday that the country is developing a plan by mid - August to launch four medium - range missiles on the US island of Guam, before being presented to leader Kim Jong - un "to make a decision on its implementation." Finished / 25
