    Kuwait's compensation to Kuwait will not be paid in cash, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported Saturday. (Chapter VII)

    "The joint committees between the two countries are moving to finalize the compensation file by agreeing to invest in vital projects in Iraq, with the importation of petroleum and gas materials by Kuwait, which will contribute to enhancing the relations between the two neighbors," the newspaper said in a report issued today.

    The paper added that "there is no Kuwaiti intention to waive part of those receivables of 4.6 billion dollars."

    The newspaper pointed out that Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had said last week that Iraq has resolved with the United Nations oil-for-food and left nothing to hinder the release of under Chapter VII of the Kuwaiti compensation. Ending / 25

    Really old....it came out today....unless you are talking about the amount of money Iraq owes Kuwait....then yes...that is from 2015.  If there is nothing to see here then it is no big deal....or is that 50 billion that is withheld from Iraq not a big deal.....I think it is

    Article is not old correct but amount owing and deals done way back. Kuwait has been talk d about enough I think....

    Iraq is an oil-dependent and state-dominated fragile economy that has been hit hard by the conflict with ISIS and the fall in oil prices. The conflict has hurt the economy through displacement and impoverishment of millions of people, and destruction of infrastructure and assets. The oil price decline has resulted in a massive reduction in budget revenue, pushing the fiscal deficit to an unsustainable level. The authorities are responding to the crisis with ambitious but necessary fiscal adjustment while maintaining their commitment to the exchange rate peg, which provides a key nominal anchor in a highly uncertain environment.

    KUWAIT CITY // Kuwait will forgive billions of dollars of Iraqi debt in exchange for guaranteed security and good relations with its northern neighbour, the minister of foreign affairs, Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Salem al Sabah, said this week. "We do not want money, and we did not ask you for that. All that we need is security and peace," Sheikh Mohammed said in an interview with the local newspaper Al Qabas on Sunday.

    Iraq owes Kuwait US$16 billion (Dh58.8bn) from loans that were mostly made during the 1980s when Saddam Hussein's regime was fighting a war with Iran. The Iraqi government owes an additional $25bn in war reparations to Kuwait as a result of the 1990 invasion. Sheikh Mohammed said he was referring only to the money owed to Kuwait through loans, and not compensation, which he said has its own "international mechanism".

    thanks for this Screwball, as this article states, Iraq was forgiven billions under the "Paris Agreement" however under the UN, Iraq MUST pay reparations to Kuwait, and the amount left is just over 4 Billion.
