    The Iranian President Mahmoud Hashemi Al-Shahroudi's current visit to Iraq was at the request of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to unify the Shiite parties after the escalating differences between them in order to enter a single list in the parliamentary elections scheduled for next year.

    The sources said that "the head of the Expediency Council of the Iranian regime (born in Najaf), a former head of the Iraqi Supreme Council, went to Iraq at the request of Ayatollah Khamenei to unite the Shiite class."
