TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran rejects any part of Iraq and does not officially recognize it, the head of Iran's armed forces said Wednesday.
"We talked during this meeting about the non-recognition of the last referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan, and we declare that changing the geography of Iraq and the separation of any part of it is unacceptable and we do not officially recognize it," said Gen. Othman Al-Ghanmi.
"Iran recognizes a united and united Iraq. Our common borders, as the Iraqi prime minister has declared, are with the Iraqi government. We do not see any sovereignty of the parties and the components in northern Iraq," Bagheri said.
Major General Bagheri said that "two Iranian and Iraqi field teams are going to inspect the joint border between Iran and Iran tomorrow, and we have announced our readiness to accept the Iraqi government's border crossing points from Iraq."
The Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces also congratulated the victories achieved by Iraq against terrorists and the stifling expansion of Iraqi territory.
The chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Osman al-Ghanmi, arrived in Tehran on Sunday evening to head a high-level military delegation to discuss military cooperation in line with the referendum on the separation of Kurdistan region.
