The defense agent of Marinello Dunley, a friend of Steven Paduc, who committed the Las Vegas massacre, said in a statement read in Los Angeles that his client had no prior knowledge of her boyfriend's armed attack on Sunday night, killing 58 people and injuring more than 500 others.
Lawyer Matthew Lombard said in a statement read by his client that her friend Stephen Padock, who committed suicide after the massacre, was "a pleasant, alert and calm man."
The 62-year-old Danley said in her statement that her boyfriend had not said anything to her to believe that something terrible would happen.
"Two and a half weeks ago, Stephen told me he found a ticket to the Philippines at a low price and he wanted me to go there to see my family. As all the Filipinos living abroad, I was delighted to return to my homes and see my family and friends. "
"When she was in the Philippines, Paduc paid her money to buy a house for her and her family," Dunley said in a statement. "I felt grateful but she was worried that this trip was unexpected and that money was a way to abandon it."
"I never thought he was planning any violence against anyone," she said, expressing grief for the dead and wounded who fell into her friend's hands.
Danley, an Australian citizen who moved 20 years ago to work in Las Vegas, returned Wednesday to the United States where she was waiting for FBI agents to hear what she might know about the motives of the massacre.
The US authorities are still unable to figure out how and why the retired and wealthy accountant, who is one of the leading casinos, collected a wide arsenal of weapons in his hotel room and launched his attack.
