     Follow-up / Sky Press:

Saudi Arabia has decided to lift the ban on women entering sports stadiums and allow them to attend events in three stadiums starting in early 2018, according to the General Authority for Sport.

Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam have been designated by the government body to be the first Saudi cities where women enter stadiums to attend other sports and games alongside men.

"In line with the directives of our wise leadership and its interest in all sectors of the society, it has been decided to start creating three playgrounds to be ready for families in accordance with the relevant regulations in early 2018."

The three stadiums are King Fahad Stadium in Riyadh, King Abdullah City in Jeddah and Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam.

Saudi Arabia prevents mixing between women and men in public places. Women were allowed to enter a football stadium in Riyadh last September for the first time as they attended a National Day celebration.

Saudi Arabia imposes some of the most severe restrictions on women in the world. But the government appears to be working to reduce it within its Vision 2030 for economic and social reforms.

On September 26, Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz issued a royal order that allowed for the first time women to drive cars. The decision is supposed to begin in June 2018.

Saudi Arabia, which enforces Islamic law and strict social norms, is the only country in the world that prevents women from driving cars.
