Name and issue: Merkel in a last-ditch attempt to save her "political life"

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday made a final attempt to form a government in the country and spare her country and Europe a turbulent period that would mean the end of her political life as well. For more than a month, Merkel has been holding very tough negotiations to form an alliance with the Liberal Democratic Party and environmentalists (Greens), an alliance that has not been tested in Germany before. The last chance meeting began yesterday and is supposed to end with a possible extension. The first deadline ended on Thursday evening, without reaching any result.
Controversial issues are many of immigration policy to the environment and tax priorities and Europe. If no result is reached, Germany is expected to return to the polls in early 2018. In this case, the elections will be held without Merkel being the head of the Christian Democratic Union. Merkel's fate therefore seems to be linked to the success of her current consultations. Merkel, who has ruled Germany for 12 years, and her conservative camp won the legislative elections held at the end of September. But the result of the vote was the worst recorded by conservatives since 1949, because of the progress of the extreme right represented by the Alternative Party for Germany, which benefits from the resentment of part of public opinion of the arrival of more than one million asylum seekers
