BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has ordered the appointment of a commander of an army contingent stationed in the city of Kirkuk since Iraqi forces and the popular crowd militia took control of the Kurdish city outside the Kurdistan Regional Administration (KRG) First Last.

The decision comes after the Kurds complained of a campaign of broad boycotts involving officials of their own people since the Iraqi control of the city of Kirkuk.

After the removal of the Kurdish governor of Kirkuk, Najmuddin Karim Ammar Abbadi, the appointment of Deputy Governor Rakan Jubouri, an Arab, as an agency. Security affairs in Kirkuk are also managed by Arab military officers, especially the Kirkuk operations chief and the security chief in the province in general.

Brigadier General Sherzad Aziz said that Abadi's decision reached the Iraqi army chief of staff to complete the legal procedures.

Aziz, who has led many battles against Da'ash in Iraq, said his appointment as commander of the army's 20th division was "not on a national basis."

Explaining that he seeks to "achieve reconciliation" among the people of Kirkuk.

Kirkuk, home to a mix of Kurds, Arabs, Turkomans and Christians, is one of the most disputed areas between Baghdad and Kurdistan, sensitive as the city is largely symbolic to Kurds.

The 46-year-old site of Kirkuk-Nawaw, based in Sulaymaniyah, quoted Brigadier General Sherzad Aziz as saying that Abadi "ordered" his appointment as the commander of the 20 Iraqi army division deployed inside the Kirkuk border.

Brigadier General Murad Badra al-Daraji was the commander of the 20th division.

No official statement was made by the Abbadi office or the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Brigadier General Sherzad Aziz was born in Kirkuk and took up many positions in the Iraqi army after the fall of the former Iraqi regime in 2003.

Iraqi forces and Iranian-backed popular militia militias launched on Kirkuk and vast areas of disputed territory on Oct. 16, a few weeks after a historic referendum Kurdistan region for independence from Iraq was supported by more than 92% of the votes of participants, including residents of the city of Kirkuk.
