A number of French municipalities are preparing to recognize the Palestinian state in a move that would encourage the French government and European countries to take the same step, Le Figaro newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the municipality of Genevillier in the province of Ost-de-Seine will formally recognize the state of Palestine, and will sign the formal recognition decision on Monday, 22 January.
The municipality announced that Marwan Barghouthi, the Palestinian leader held in Israeli jails, who was granted honorary citizenship in dozens of French cities, is the honorary figure of this recognition.
"President Emmanuel Macaron refuses to recognize France in this way, but if thousands of provinces and municipalities take this step, this will lead France to officially recognize the Palestinian state," said Mayor of France Gebrillier Patrice Leclerc. "He urged other French municipalities and districts to take the same action. .
According to Le Figaro, "the municipalities of Saint-Bondi and Vitri-Sogsien are on their way to recognize the State of Palestine." Ending / 25
