    OTTAWA -

The Canadian government has filed an appeal against the US administration's decision to impose anti-dumping duties and compensation on Bombardier's C-Series aircraft and US-imported construction timber, the government said.

Canada has filed an appeal to the General Secretariat of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a move that will exacerbate trade disputes that poison relations between the two countries just days before a new round of negotiations to redraft this trade agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Canadian government said its decision was "within the time limits set forth in the law ... the necessary steps for the appeals process aimed at challenging US decisions to impose customs duties on imports of C-Series + Bombardier aircraft and timber from Canada."

The US Department of Commerce, at the request of Boeing, has ordered a 300 percent import duty on C-Series aircraft, which Bombardier sold to Delta Airlines.

The United States said it imposed the fees in response to the government's financial support to the Canadian group, as well as the sale of these planes, which can accommodate between 100 and 150 passengers at low prices.

The administration has imposed duties on Canadian imported timber on the grounds that Canadian forest workers are using public forests and paying small fees in exchange for fees paid by Americans for private forests.

The Canadian Government objected to dispute resolution mechanisms among Member States called Chapter 19. The Americans demand that it be revoked as part of the renegotiation of the free trade agreement that has been in place since 1994.
