    [ltr]Syrian delegations are participating in the Syrian national dialogue conference in the Russian city of Sochi, amid a festive reception at the Black Sea city airport.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Syrian National Dialogue Conference, which is one of the most ambitious events in recent years to resolve the crisis in Syria, begins in Sochi on Monday afternoon. Delegates participating in this national conference vary in the diversity of components in Syria and its trends, including representatives of the ruling Baath Party, civil society, trade unions and the internal opposition.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The main task for the conference participants is to launch a constitutional commission that can continue its work on a new constitution under the auspices of the United Nations.[/ltr]
    [ltr]More than 1,600 people representing various political and ethnic groups in Syria are expected to attend the conference.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Representatives of the Syrian government confirmed their participation, which will reach 680 people and 400 others representing the country's internal political opposition.[/ltr]
    [ltr]In addition, the permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations Secretariat, as well as Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan and Kazakhstan were invited to attend the Conference as observers.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Participants in the Sochi meeting include Russia, Iran and Turkey as guarantors of the Astana agreements on a ceasefire in Syria.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Special Envoy to Syria, Stephane de Mistura, confirmed his intention to participate in the Sochi conference.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Syrian National Dialogue Conference is the first of its kind since the beginning of the crisis in 2011, both in terms of the number of broad spectrum involved, or the number of invitees in general, or the diversity of trends and affiliations and ramifications, in the first attempt to collect such a wide range in one negotiating platform.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The conference is held in Sochi a few days after the end of the special meeting between the Syrians in Vienna.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The main meetings of the Conference - Plenary and Dinner - are expected to be held in Sochi on Tuesday.[/ltr]
    [ltr]A member of the Syrian delegation, who declined to be named, told SPOTNIK: "We are very happy to reach Sochi to contribute to and participate in the Syrian Dialogue Conference! We are optimistic because we have friends here, under the patronage of Iran and Russia. "[/ltr]
